It's summer; a time when those of us here at the library try our best to fill the void three months of no school has left in your life. How on earth are you going to fill your days without school? By coming to the library and participating in the Summer Reading Club! An advanced degree in rocket surgery is NOT required.
What IS required though, is for you to comment on this post! We want to hear all about what you like (and maybe what you don't like?) about Summer Reading Club. Pretend you're a paid actor giving a glowing review on a cheesy infomercial. We would love that!

Even though I havent really been a fan of the Summer Reading Club in earlier years, for some reason reading these days seems like a sensible choice in comparison to watching the same reality tv shows day after day..So i guess this summer I have something more to do than loathe over who got sent back to re-hab-(not attractive)...

I love reading! People need to get over to the library so they can check out books! I go there like 3-5 times a week and every time i get at least 3 books ! i'm crazy!

I love the summer reading program, but I liked it better when I waas in the Kid category. Us teens have to read for more minutes every square and we also don't have as great prizes. When they finish, they get a bookbag and when we finish, we get a book. That just gives us more reading to do.
P.S. My favorite series are From the Files of Madison Finn, The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes, and Camp Confidential. (yes I know those are all kids books, but I enjoy their themes better than the teen ones.)
I do the summer reading club every year and began when I was little. I really like it and the program makes you want to read even more!
This year the prizes are pretty good but teens should be able to get a book like the past years. I already signed up and am excited to finish.
My mad reading love is reading the previews and reviews. I like to view how other readers feel and describe the story before I read it. I think reading the previews or reviews of a book is helpful in determining my first impression of the book.
I madly love all the books by Louis Sachar, because Louis Sachar is the funniest author ever!
I love the summer reading program! My brother and I go to the library at least twice a week during the summer. I find the website very helpful for locating books and it seems as though I have reserves coming in everyday :). The idea of a summer reading club is great, but most of my friends do not participate :(. I wish that more teens would interact through the library.

I work at the library as a voulenteen and it is funny how people come up and say they don't have a library card but they are in a library. I am glad you still let them perticipate!

Hey! I love to read, and write, and i think that the reading program is awesome! My AH-BSOLUTE fAvOrItE series in the entire world has got to be Maximum Ride by James Patterson.
Overview for those of you who dont know what the heck i'm talking about:
In these books (all four although i must say that the fourth was not quite up to standard...)
6 kids set out to save the world. Literally. They were created by a place called the School and are only 98% human, the other 2% is bird DNA. So, they have wings. They escaped the School and are now being hunted down by the Whitecoats. Totally packed with suspense, action, bombs (made by our wonderful pyro men, Iggy and the Gasman), and LoVe (Max (a girl.) + Fang= FAX!!!!!)
this is a great read for anyone.
I have also really liked the Twilight series. It's got vamps in it, and werewolves. Super hott vamps and wolves i might add.... =]
Plus the movie is coming out in December.

I loooove fantasy. But I also like other kinds of books. What I like about the Summer Reading CLub is that you can read whatever you want. Also, it's like an honors system, because none of the librarians can tell how much you've actually read. GO READING!
omg!!! Ilove to read it is just soooooo fun! Some of my have started reading more because, of me and that makes me really proud of myself. Also, me and my mom have started a book club to find good books we can both enjoy and talk about, I am so glad you guys put this program on every year Ilove it!
I love summer reading! My mom gets mad @ me for reading @ midnight during the school year. So this is the only time she ever lets me. So, this is the only time of thye year she lets me read a lot.
I love that the library always has this program. It really helps readers out there to look forward to doing something other than hanging out with their friends. It gives them a persanality. I myself look forward to the summer because of this.
I L.O.V.E. love the summer reading program! I was never a big fan of reading till I could do the program. You are working towards getting the prizes, which I believe would motivate kids to read more and more! You can explore something new with each book you read.

Summer Reading Club is something I've done every summer since I was about 2! I know that I love to read and I figure, why not get prizes for something I already do:) Sometimes though, I think that kids who don't like to read in the first place, need a bigger incentive. Sometimes the prizes aren't something to rave about. The experience, however, is a worthwhile and memorable one. I hope Summer Reading Club will last and last. As far as books go, Harry Potters are all awesome! Also, Uprising, by Margret Peterson Haddix is pretty wonderful. Shades of Simon Gray is a great story, too. I recomend all of these books to people who are stumped about books to read. Enjoy!
I love src it lets me work as a volenteen at my local branch and i get to hang out with friends i dont see any other time of the year.

I Love reading! And I love the summer reading program! I have been a fan of it for about five years now. Ever since I was little I have been doing it, and it just gets better and better!
The summer reading program is GREAT!!! A suggestion to make the program even better is to hand-out a teen's summer reading list when we first register. I know the kid's have a summer reading list they got and some of the teens got, but most of those books are geared to kids.
I love to read and write about any thing so I deside to join this reading club this year. When I am older I will write all kinds of books for manily kids and teens
I kinda like reading but i like most books about older brothers and how they act with younger brothers because i am an older brother and i want to know if i am doing wrong but i like reading things like that and now i am into reading this summer and i love it...
Summer reading is awesome! This club just makes it so much more enjoyable and I absolutely love reading!!! I have been doing this for as long as I can remember, and it is completely worth it in the end!
I been a enjoying the Summer Reading club ever since i was 6. But now it feels kinda awkward to participate in SRC. i mean come on, i bet 75% of the teens feel awkward doing this, even the adults. Anyway, i'm just doing it to kill time and to get the prizes. Who doesn't like prizes?

I don't like that people can go online and do stuff because people write poems that don't make sense.
also, you should have to write down what you read for the 30 min. and write 2 sentances about it so the library knows you aren't cheating.
I think the summer reading program is great. It gives kids and teens a way to read whatever types of literacher they want to.My favorite book that i've read so far this summer is Lord Of The kill. i tis one of the best mysteries i've ever read, and i like it because it deals with exotic animals from far away places. I love animals and i love animal books so if you like exotic animals and mysteries read Lord of The Kill. I also like the summer reading program better now because you can earn credit online. I think this is a good idea because some people may be better on the computer then they are at reading a book.
So I like the summer reading program but one thing i don't like is that some people cheat and say they did things but they didn't and get rewards for cheating. U really don't like people like that and i wish there was a way you could check things like that. but it isn't the library's fault i guess it is the kids fault for relying on cheating to get things accomplished.

Reading is the best! I never used to read, but once I started Twilight by Stephenie Meyer I started reading a lot and I really had fun doing the summer reading club. This time I did it for the reading not the prizes.

You can actually sit down, relax and read. You can even earn cool prizes for reading. I have done this program for quite a while and I still am!
I think this program is a way to keep students reading. Study has shown that students forget what they have learned for half of the year in just three months.

I love the summer reading club. It gives you the opportunity to read (which I love doing)and earn prizes. You actually get a prize for reading!
I like the summer reading club because if you have nothing to do over the summer this is the time when you really can read and time flies like a bird and it really keeps you occupied. Some people take it as a challenge. They read as much as possible to earn the prizes therefore others read cause they love reading. It really keeps me busy.

I live in Pennsylvania, but my cousin who lives in Columbus, and I have been big fans since, well, ever. I have probably been doing this since I was six. I get the forms and info mailed to me in the beginning of July, and I look forward to it. I very much love the program, and would love if you guys would show some love to the 'outer-Cols.' fans!
i like the summer reading program because it is giving me an chance to win prizes by doing something that i know how to do and its not to hard at all i normally dont like reading but once i saw i could win many prizes i went for and i am having fun doing it and my family is doing it to so we can do something together and it gets us ready for next year and keeps our minds working and not rotting in front of the t.v and we are also reading to my little sister and she is having fun with our family reading to her so we are all enjoying it plus i used to not like reading very much and now i kind of like reading books so i might start reading more during the school year and hopefully i will get better grades even though i get A's and B's i still want to just get all A's and go to collage to not only play sports but to be reconised of the many students to had great grades.
i hate to be little miss rain cloud but i dont like the fact that all the books get checked out and you have to reserve them. no more good old fasioned library browsing:(. but other than that itis a really great thing. as for books i like well, there is the Farie path series, maximum ride, the books by ally carter, uglies, turn about and so many more.(im the kind of person who cant enter the library without checking any thing out)
I sign up for the Summer Reading program every year. Most of the time i am not wanting to read but this year i am really into reading. I have been reading My Desprerate Love Diary, and it is a very good book and i read it every other day for about an hour.
Most of the time i am not even to the drawing yet by this time, but this year i am. I really think i am going to finish the program before the last day this year.
I do want to recomend the book My Desperate Love Diary it is a very very good book and i know for sure they have it at the New Albany and the Gahanna Library!!!
As far as the prizes go, I like the backpack this year but maybe next year do something with a similar shape but a little bit bigger so that you can fit a laptop in it. Also, as far as books go, I LOVE anything by Kurt Vonnegut.
I really enjoy reading, and doing the reading club is fun because I'm doing something I love(reading)to have the chance to win something.

I <3 reading. seriously. I have read so many books in the past days its hard to keep track of them. I love Twilight, mAXIMUM rIDE and practiacally any other fantasy in the real world book, but recently, I've been reading a bunch of Agatha Chrystie. She's an amazing author. I liked the prizes in previous years, the bags included, that we got as kids. why can't teens get the summer reading bags??
I think that Peter and the starcathers is a GREAT read! It is so good, i really don't want to give the plot away! The book has a sequel,Peter and the shadow thieves. Watch Out Harry Potter.
I just finished listening to 'A Single Shard'. It is really great.It's about this orphan boy who start's to work for a potter.Everyone should read this good book.It made me happy,sad,angry,and tense all in the same book.It's really really Good!

i kon when i was a kid i hateing read but now that iam older and i know what books i like i love reading lol just call me a book wrom lol i get that from my mom books were the 1 thing mom said she coul;d never say no 2 books lol.
without summer reading club my summer would be so boring! this provided me with activities where i met new people and learned new things. this is only my 2nd year but it rocks!

i disliked the program because for one the prizes are lame and whack for the teens. We should get some cool prized such as IPods gift cards to places where teens hang out or shop. so suggestions that i also have for prizes are digital cameras video games etc...

I think book on tape's are just as good as books.I'm a really slow reader,so listening to someone read is better.Also, I get sick reading in the car, so to have something to do instead of just sit there is listen to a book on tape. We constatly have a book on tape going in the car.
I just got Mini Mysteries 3 from the bookstore! I have the other two and I think there great!I like short stories. There quick and easy to read.Mini Mysteries are short stories that have a answer to a mystery hidden in them and you have to try to figure it out.There really fun and my whole family love's them a lot!
I like reading for a long time and not just short periods of time because you can escape into the book and feel like you are actsalley in the story.Your not thinking about anything else.It's really fun.You should try it sometime.

I've been doing the summer reading program since I was in kindergarten. I love it!The prizes are pretty good to! This was my first year in the teen program and it was a little harder.I didn't have much time to read this summer.Why don't you make the summer reading program go longer. I'm Homeschooled,so my school dosen't start till September.August is my most free month,and I will be doing most of my reading in August. I think it should go longer.
i'm a really slow reader! i like to go over everything so that I understand it fully. If there's a word I don't understand I will usually look it up in the dictionary or ask my parents.i like that i'm like that but also wish i could read faster.i going to take a speed reading class in the fall.
