Due to the $8.5 million decline in state funding for Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML), our Board of Trustees has authorized a number of cuts that will be felt throughout the entire system. Effective September 6, 2009:
- All 20 branches of CML will be closed on Sundays (except Main Library)
- Hours cut at all locations. All branches and Main will be open:
- Monday through Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. MAIN LIBRARY ONLY
- Materials budget has been cut back to 1988 levels
- Hours/pay cut for staff
We know that in these challenging times our customers need our library more than ever – as we help our community through Job Help Centers, Homework Help Centers and all the resources we make available. We are committed to doing our part to return Franklin County to health and prosperity.
So, we're still here, but in a more limited capacity. Times are tough but I know our city and all of you are even tougher. We'll get through this together. In the long run, we can win this. Don't you think?

of course we can. the economy is bad right now, but it will get better soon. and we will have our libraries back to normal. at least we still have them :)
Say goodbye to CML being the #1 library now...
Oh and I'm not being optimistic here. Better to have low hopes and be pleasantly surprised than to have high hopes that are likely to come crashing down.
Thant stinks... i wish that that people would look around and see that the economy is in the toilet and do someing about it. The ctizens of Ohio need to do what they can. like even donating books and money to the librarys. so they can be in a better situation!
I really hope this libray stays open its a great libray and its alyays busy!!! :(
Sorry guys I posted this on the wrong blog this is suppost to be on another one
It's too bad about the reduced hours, but I'm glad that we can still enjoy our library even if it's for a shorter time. :D Libraries provide great entertainment and resources and they are truly a blessing in these troubled times.
I feel sorry for the Library I hope more money will come in
dude i luv the libraries how dare they do that
libraries are what makes kids smart so if they take out libraries kids won't get get smarter
they need more hours for libraries even though the economy is bad but it will get better
I do think that we can get through this tough time, but not on our own. We need to help each other and more importantly doit as a team.
I wonder with the Columbus tax increase passing this last week if the library will get back what it lost?

Excellent question!
Unfortunately, the Columbus City income tax increase will not help our funding situation AT ALL. All of the library's funding comes from a local property tax (as opposed to income tax) levy & the state budget.
CML is an excellent library and a tremendous resource for the community. We are very fortunate that the levy passed so the community can continue to take advantage of all that CML has to offer.
