You've probably heard by now that the two year budget for state government was signed on Tuesday. Thanks to your letters and phone calls to state representatives, library funding was not cut as severely as we feared. Even though we're not facing the worst-case scenario, we're still facing funding cuts that are going to force the library to make some very tough choices.
Libraries have already made cuts to accommodate a 20% reduction in state revenue this year. The state budget that was passed on July 13 cut another 11% out of the Public Library Fund. We estimate the continued downward trend of state income to cost libraries at least another 4% this year bringing the total loss to 35%. As a result, the library will have to make significant changes and cuts to our operations while still offering the best service to our customers. Thank you for your support in this difficult time and we will continue to provide updates on this matter.
In the meantime, how can you make a difference?
There are many ways you can help the library in these difficult times. Our materials and collection are deeply affected by the budget cuts. So why not talk to your parents and Adopt-a-Book? This is a great way to show support while helping add a new book to our collection. See how you can Adopt-a-Book and learn about other giving options.
What's most important to you at the library? What services should we be sure not to cut?

i think we should do everything we can to save our libraries! most of the time is the only place that a child will ever see a book and i believe that it is important that all children know a good book and how to read it! :)
without the library i will be dumb. i dont read books anywhere else.
libraries are needed. some people rely on the library there whole life.
I think we sould make more profitable activities to obtain more money for the essential parts of the library. Such as paid entries to a jepordy like compitetion for a grand prize(this could be half of the price every one paid in), or donations.
I Think We SHould do everythin we cant to save our libraries!!
It Helps us Learn and now a good book
We need libraries it is a great way to find information
without the library it will be hard to do school work
Thats cool, the adopt a book. I think that since there are budget cuts that schools should try and have a book drive for libraries... im gonna talk to my principal and suggest that! I found out about the budget cuts a few days ago when i got the sad news that reading off fines were gone:( But i will be ok!
we need libraries. i think we should donate any of the books we dont read anymore or have outgrown. the library has been a good add to the community and now the community needs to back up the library.
One thing we could all do is take greater care of the materials that the library has to loan. When books, DVD or audio CD's are damaged it costs the library to replace them. Since it is our funds that pay for the stuff, when we are not as careful as we should be with the materials, we are really only hurting ourselves. It think maybe the library should remind EVERYONE adults and kids to hand materials with extra care, especially during these tough time ~Just a thought :)
Our library is such an important resource and should be preserved!
